Talk of 2011 doomsday – ridiculous!!

I recently saw on my friend’s Facebook Wall a link to a YouTube clip – see

It is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard!! The man on the clip, Alexander Retrov, is apparently a phychic and a science researcher. He claims that the end of the world will happen on 26 September 2011 when a comet called Elenin, which orbits around the sun, will be entering our solar system and when aligned between the earth and the sun, cause a 3 day elipse.

He says that the comet will cause massive earthquakes and other natural disasters like volcano eruptions. Apparently, the comet was also aligned with the earth and sun when the Chili, New Zealand and Japan earthquakes occurred.  Also, the earth will lose its magnetic force…blah blah blah….and cause a poll shift….and everyone will fry to death because the earth will no longer have its shield to protect us from the outer space…blah blah blah….I was shocked that people would actually pay him to listen to him talk about this stuff!

People need to think for themselves and not just absorb whatever other people say…….have some analytical thinking…..use your own brain!! Earthquakes are to do with shifts in the earth’s plates, it has nothing to do with alignment of planets/comets.

I remember seeing on the news Chinese people in Hong Kong and PRC flocking to the supermarkets to buy pounds and pounds of salt because they thought that the iodine in salt (which is only found in salt manufactuered in PRC) would protect them from radiation from Japan’s nuclear power plant.  How many pounds of salt would you need to eat to have enough iodine in you to protect you from one day’s exposure to radiation?? LOTS AND LOTS! Obviously it would be impossible to consume so much salt everyday….but people still went to buy the salt. And what’s funny is that salt manufactured from other countries (which don’t have iodine) were also sold out – not to mention soya-sauce as well, which of course doesn’t contain any iodine!!! Exercise some common sense!

The bible says that “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Of course we need to prepare ourselves for the coming of Jesus, and repent our sins. But please do not believe in other people’s money-making seminars about the end of the world. Instead, put your faith in God and exercise some of your own judgement and common sense!

  1. Like you said, we need to prepare for the second comming but we do not need to look like idiots out there! I think the reason why people do not think for themselves is because it is so easy to get caught up in the drama of it all. If you are only running on emotions and what you feel in the moment, you are surely going to pick options based in fear. We are taught in the Bible that the heart is wicked and a very common saying is “trust your heart”. I think too many people rely on their heart because they have no spiritual direction to look at.

I cannot agree more with your comment! They are getting caught up in the drama of it all – they have no spiritual direction. I feel so sad….especially for my friend who is Christian, to be promoting all this stuff on her facebook wall…..sigh…

  2. Nan says:

“Comet Elenin will not encounter any dark bodies that could perturb its orbit, nor will it influence us in any way here on Earth,” said Don Yeomans of NASA’s Near-Earth Object Program Office at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. “It will get no closer to Earth than 35 million kilometers [about 22 million miles].”
